So I went for my fill today- was an interesting one to say the least. I am trying not to panic or assume the worst... hence my post title. Now let me review the gory details....
First of all, my fill was at 2:30 this afternoon. I worked half of the day and then off to my appointment. My last fill was about a month ago (November) and I got a big 1.5cc's the fill before that one was about 1 month before (October)and at 1cc. I also got a small fill in September I think it was .5 or 1 cc (I have to look). So basically I've been chasing my sweet spot for about 4 months now. My surgeon is awesome. I love him. I trust him. I have been fortunate enough to be able to have my fills under floro and they are covered (mostly) by insurance. The last three fills *looked* like they were going to be the one. The chalky fluid would zip down to my band, pause and then pass through. However, they never stuck, 2 days later off of liquids and still hungy every hour, able to eat with no risk of getting stuck, PB or sliming. I've had no pain, no heartburn nothing. So back to today- first try he missed my port (no worries this is the first time he missed in all of my fills) so readjust and he gets it. He gives me 1cc- drink the liquid chalk- whoa! no restriction at all- seriously zero- it was like I didn't even have a band it went down so quickly. okay, Dr. B says I'll give you 1 more cc. (That makes 2cc's, a real big girl fill for those who are still with me). He does. I proceed to drink chalk. xray shows zero restriction!!!!!!! WTF! Dr. B crinkles his face all around and tilts his head to the side (obviously he is puzzled) he asks the nurse how much I had when I came in- I interrupt and say 7cc, the nurse looks at my chart and confirms, 7cc. hummmmm Dr. B says... drink some water, I do. Same as liquid chalk. zero restriction. hummmm. Dr. B says okay, lets put a little more in... 1cc (AGH! that makes today's fill go up to 3cc's and puts me at 10cc's in my 11cc realize band). I drink more liquid chalk. It goes a tiny bit slower, but not feeling like it is even close to being my sweet spot. Dr. B says, okay I'm going to pull the fluid out and see if you really have what we think you have in there... yep. just about 10cc's come out, after putting it all back in he asks me if I've had any pain, or concerns with my band. I restate that I have had zero side effects, no pain, no heartburn, no regurgitaition, no sliming, no PB's in probably 8 months and even when I did have a PB it happend the first week I was eating solid foods and the only other time it happend was probably still at least a 8 months to a year ago...I really have had nothing but smooth sailing with the exception of finding my elusive sweet spot. He decides to stop at 3cc's today. He wants me to come back in a month, or sooner if I have any symptoms of being over-filled. What the heck happend? The first time I was at my sweet spot at like 3.5cc, or maybe it was 4.5cc's- now I just can't find it for the life of me. What happens if I fill up my band to 11cc's and I'm still not there? Have any of you heard of anyone filling thier band all the way up?? I hope this is a delayed onset sweet spot. Thank you so much to all of you who left kind comments on my last post. I still am hoping this is *the one*. I only have 40lbs to lose!!! Sweet Jesus I need this band, I've come to far to stop now, so I guess with or without the help of my band I have to get to the place to make this happen. I'm starting my workouts for the triathlon. I'm also probably going to do a 5k here and there along the way. I'm trying to stay positive so I'm going to try to avoid looking up information on the internet about people who fill up thier band and still can't lose wieght, I just know that won't be me! I'm going to go back and review my old posts to see what I was eating and how I was keeping myself motivated. I also need to spend some time catching up on everyone else's blogs tonight too... I'm really going to try to get back to commenting more, I know it really brightens up my day when I get some on my posts. I'll take any positive vibes you can send my way....
loves to all of you!

Hang in there...I'm sure this fill will take a bit to catch up to you. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, girl!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't jump to conclusions... the bands are fickle and it still may give you the restriction you need. I have heard people having issues getting to that sweet spot with the realize band. One woman that I know claims the band failed her... because she is filled all the way up and still able to eat bread and such, she has a realize band. I think she just stretched her pouch out or something. i would give it a couple days and see where you are then... hugs, *Maria*
ReplyDeleteHoping that this fill does it for you - I totally feel your frustration, and have my fingers crossed for you too!
ReplyDeleteThat is so strange! Fickle dang thing.
ReplyDeleteI have my fingers and toes crossed for you that this does it.
Thank you for the dress! I LOOOOOVE it! I can't wait to wear it and I'll be sure and snap a pic. It might be a few months though, it's ZERO degrees here right now. :)
I can see why you'd want to panic. I have heard of people with the realize band getting pretty close to if not all the way to "full" and then suddenly being super-restricted and having to have an unfill and go from 11cc's down to 7cc's. Hopefully this is a delayed reaction fill for you. I'm sure your stomach will get mad about this in the next day or two. My fill almost two weeks ago was awesome on the day of...but it's even more now. I don't think we know what's what with fills for a few days if not a week. All I can say is take it easy...3cc's is definitely a big girl fill!
ReplyDeleteActually I have heard of a few people needing to have their bands filled almost completely up. Don't forget that liquids don't act the same as solids when going through the band. I hope this fill brings you some restriction!
ReplyDeleteYour surgeon is AWESOME!
I can see why you're worried, really hope that it works out for you.
ReplyDeleteI have complete faith in you that you WILL lose the 40lbs. You are a stong willed, determined, confident woman that when she sets her mind to something she gets it done. I think you might need to remind yourself of your "blog name". It is ALL about YOU and you need o remember that. I know that this time of year you really focus on everyone else and helping everyone else. So please put yourself first! You need to do this. I love you!
ReplyDeleteSorry Jen! I hate to hear your worries and problems with getting to the sweet spot. It really sucks. I have not been "sweet" in months, and it bites.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like some kind of fluke - maybe it will kick in later? Hope so! Hang in there!
Some surgeons will even "overfill" bands a little bit. I think my surgeon does on occasion. Maybe google it and see what the literature says. And maybe the fill will have a delayed kick in- I've read other bloggers who have that happen. And sometimes... even a little tiny fill may work, if you decide you still need help. These fickle, fickle bands!
ReplyDeleteI would be panicking too. My doc says you should never have a problem getting liquids down so maybe you'll feel the difference more with solid food. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
