2 big things!

First big thing is that I went to my 1 month follow up with my nutritionist Jenn yesterday and I have lost 19lbs! Yepper- 10 pre surgery and 9 post surgery. I was going for 10lbs post op before this appointment, but I'm not too disappointed that I didn't make it- so close! I am really proud of myself! Jenn said I was doing great, that things are going just as they should. There are a couple of things I need to work on though, like making sure I get 50grams of protien in per day, keeping my calories between 1,000-1,200, and exercising regularly. So those are my new top three goals. Oh, and taking my daily multi vitamin. I got some from Pacific Wellness today, but ick. they taste so gross. I am going to see if I can return them for another flavor. Keep your fingers crossed- they cost almost 50 bucks! I guess if I can't return them I'll force myself to use them up, I can't see wasting $50!
The second big thing is that I got my first fill today! I have a 10cc Realize band. The doctor does not give you any fill in your band at the time of surgery because there is lots of swelling and he wants that swelling to be gone before you get your first fill. The first fill is a bit conservative, it usually takes 2-3 fills to find just the right amount to help keep the hunger away for a minimum of 4 hours and for you to be satisfied with about 1/2 cup of food. First my favorite nurse (who I usually get) was there so I was a little less stressed. She took my blood pressure and asked how things were going- all is good here so we then went into the room where they have this big x-ray machine. We were both trying to guess where my port was- turns out we were off by an inch or so when we looked at it under x ray.
my port is under that dot to the left of my belly button
She also took an x ray of my band. I snapped a shot of it on the screen when she went to get Dr. L (who subbed for Dr. B because Dr. B is on vacay). So here is the picture of my band. They said it was in a perfect position. Yay! My band is the dark ring at the top with the thing that looks like a string going tothe bottom left corner of the pic. (this is a picture of the monitor that I took with my cell phone, that's why it isn't so great). The tools of the trade... the cup has some chalky stuff in it that I had to drink as Dr. L put fluid(saline) in my band to see how much restriction I had, the first syringe (left one) has a honkin huge needle attached- like 3-4inches long! This is the needle they have to use to reach my port, the other small normal sized needle has Lydocaine (sp?) they use that to numb the spot where they stab me with the huge honkin needle-(thank you Jesus!). Ok, so here is what they do. They find my port by using an x ray and this long metal rod. They turn on the x ray until they line up the end of the rod with my port and put a purple dot there. Then Dr. L numbed that spot with the little needle- a little sting, I would definitely say it did NOT hurt. After numbing he grabs the honker needle and pushes it in- no pain, but I could feel the pressure of the needle it was wierd. Once he got to the port there was a little more pressure, no pain and he was in. I looked down and the needle was all the way in! He left it there as we did the next steps (didn't take it in and out each time he added fluid) Adding fluid I did'nt feel anything. He added 1.o cc and had me drink the chalky stuff under x ray- it flew right through the band (no restriction), he added another .5cc, another drink of the chalky stuff under x ray and it flew right through (no restriction), he added another .5 cc to put me at 2cc total and I drank the chalky stuff under x ray and wow it got to my band, paused and slowly went through. Yay! restriction. He took a little bit of the fill back out because he didn't want me too tight on my first fill- I have 1.6 cc in my band now. I'll be on liquids today and tomorrow, so I'll likely get down a couple more pounds.

So yeah, I guess I'd say the fill was no big deal- I'll be rarin' and ready to go my next one is scheduled for September 2. I'll be sure to take more pictures of the x ray pictures- it is pretty cool to see what the port looks like too.
Well, that's all for now- I'll be gettng (borrowing) my elliptical this week and hopefully a better ipot so I can put my couch to 5 k podcasts on it and start training.... I'll keep you posted!
