A friend of mine recently posted to facebook that she completed 13 running events in 2013 and that she planned to complete 14 in 2014... she invited and challenged friends to join her. Do you see this stamp on my forehead that says "sucker"... yep it is there and yes I did accept her challenge!
I took some time to look at local events that I could train for and that I would enjoy. Here is what I have so far...
January:
train! I have not been running in a couple of months!
Feb:
Puddle Run 5k
Cupid 5k
March:
Hot Chocolate 5k
St. Paddys Dash
April:
Heroes Half/10k
May:
Slime Run 5k
Color Run
W'SUP Cup (paddle board race)
June:
Triathlon (there are two I am trying to decide between and my workout buddy is joining me)
July:
1/2 mile open water swim
August:
SUP for Cancer (paddle board event)
Bridge Paddle (paddle board event)
September:
Roy Webster Cross Channel Swim (open water swim)
Round the Rock (paddle board event)
Kiss Me Dirty (mud run/5k)
Lake Stevens Tri (Olympic Distance!)
Other events no specific date yet:
Stroke the Slough (paddle board event) *August I think
ROC Race *date TBD
Elk River Challenge (paddle board event) July
I have more than 14 and I haven't planned out past September, so I do have some wiggle room. The good thing is that my friend who challenged me to join in on this 14 in 14 challenge is a go-getter! She will definitely meet the challenge which makes me more accountable too.
So, wish me luck! I've also found a support group that I have started attending. So far it has been fun and really nice to connect with some fellow WLS peeps. The last meeting we worked on making "dream boards", but mine is more of goals for 2014... I already have a "dream list" that I keep handy! Anyway, I think it will help me keep my focus and be the visual reminder that I often need to stay on track.
You can't really see it but some of my goals are to run a sub 30 5k, sub 2 hour triathlon, learn to golf, paddle more, get a race board, take a flying lesson, camp, road trip, travel, and have more FUN! On the back I have a tracker for my 14 in 14, and the goal to drink more water, save $$$, work hard, explore, bike to work and a couple more but I'm brain dead right now... It was fun and got me thinking about what I hope to accomplish so I say YAY!
That is all for now... loves ya!

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! I love that you have the whole year mapped out already. WOOT! You might have inspired me to go do a couple 5K's!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck Jen!! You're going to do great. I'm going to attend my pre surgery class soon and already planning on attending the WLS support group. Big mistake I made last time.
ReplyDeleteTerrific goals and energy. I'm working it with you at this time!!
ReplyDeleteNice goals. I think I need to take some time and make a list or a board of goals. It's good to be visual sometimes.
