I got my band on Monday. whoo hoo! Things went pretty smoothly, Dave took me down to Stevens Hospital on Monday morning, we got there about 8:15 for check in. I had a nice nurse, Jim, who explained every detail of what he was doing as he did it. I didn't even feel him do the iv. Dave and I sat in my room and watched TV for about an hour and a half, then they came and wheeled me down to the basement (where they do the surgeries) and Dave got a break for a while. I was a little nervous but still feeling pretty good. The anestheiologist came over and talked to me for a few minutes and I saw Dr. Billing and he said hi as well. I waited for 10-15 minutes then they took me into the OR- they had me move from one table to the other and then anethesia guy said I'm going to just give you something that will make you feel a little drowsy before we get started, so OK here we go, right away I felt woozy(sleepy, not sick) and said oh, yeah I can feel that. Next thing I know I'm waking up in recovery. I don't remember the pain, it wasn't too bad. I was just a little confused. So Steve my bed driver took me back up to my room where Dave was waiting. I got some ice chips (had a sore throat) and my shoulder started hurting from the gas pain (they blow up your abdominal cavity like a balloon so they have space to work). I had a new nurse (Jim had gone home for the day) she was ummm a little bit of a crazy cat lady, but very nice. she was trying to take the EKG monitor sticker things off but instead of just pulling them off she was pinching my skin trying to get the edge, so I did it for her.
After about 30 minutes I was much more awake and so I had Dave help me sit straight up, which really helped the pain in my shoulder. I asked CCLN (crazy cat lady nurse) when I could go home, she said I just have to go pee and they have to check my vitals two more times. So I told her I was ready to pee (I was) and I did. So 15 minutes later we were on our way home. of course I promised Shana I'd call her as soon as I could (she called me when I was on my way that morning) so I gave her a quick ring on the way home. When I got home I took pain meds and fell asleep sitting up on the couch. Tuesday I pretty much stayed on the couch or walked around the house a little, I was taking my pain meds so I wasn't feeling too much pain, just more like muscle soreness. Weds. I started feeling a bit better, so I started a load of laundry and then the dishwasher. I walked around the house to get rid of the last of the gas pain and slept more. Thursday I was recovering from a late night migraine, but feeling pretty good so I washed a few dishes by hand, and put away two loads of laundry. The first two days my allowed foods consisted of clear liquids. Weds. I could move to full liquids, so I've had some tomato soup, a pudding cup, and protien shakes along with vitamin water, flavored water and SF popsicles. Yesterday I was able to drive to Lake Goodwin Store without any problem, so today I am goin to see Dave's mom and return some movies. It felt good to get out of the house for a few yesterday.
I'll keep things updated.
